Whatβs the story, morning glory?
What is Nettlepoint Farm?
Nettlepoint farm is a micro flower farm located in Greenfield, MA. Weβre on just over 2.5 acres on Highland Ave, which is, as Iβm sure you can guess, at the top of a hill!
We started as a hobbyist operation, just a few flower beds to fill up the empty lawn after moving into the house. After a year of giving away flowers to friends and family, I decided to expand into a commercial operation. Now I can spend as much time in my gardens as makes me happy, and share that happiness with everyone around!
I grow my flowers using βlow-tillβ methods, preferring to preserve our root systems as much as possible to reduce erosion. Iβm also learning about and experimenting with Korean Natural Farming techniques, to work WITH our indigenous micro-biome, rather than following conventional practices which require constant chemical and mineral interference from the farmer.
I hope you can tell the difference when you bring my bouquets home!
Who is the farmer?
Hi! Iβm Syd, and I use they/them pronouns! I was born in Wisconsin, grew up in Michigan, and relocated to Massachusetts for a change of scenery in 2020. Since then, Iβve felt right at home!
I started urban farming in 2018 in Detroit, learning greenhouse maintenance via microgreens and tomatoes, and learning about community engagement by working the largest open air farmersβ market in America.
Since then, Iβve worked in packaging, distribution, greenhouses, and in fields learning how to do all of those things even better.
Iβm pursuing flower farming as a way to contribute something beautiful to my community, and still get to play in the dirt as much as I want! I hope youβll support me in my mission
