I believe that the best defense against pest infestation and weeds is to grow the healthiest plants possible! Pests and weeds target plants that are especially susceptible to their damage.
To that end, here at Nettlepoint, I don’t use any pesticides or herbicides, and I try to use as little chemical intervention for the plants as possible. I don’t use any manufactured fertilizers or amendments. Instead, we follow Korean Natural Farming (KNF) techniques to keep our plants healthy with minimal fussing from the farmer!

Korean Natural Farming, or KNF, is a style of farm management developed in Korea and popularized in Hawaii that focuses on building up your indigenous microbiome and working with it to care for your plants, rather than constantly monitoring your soil and doing the work of the microbiome yourself.
The process is a lot like eating probiotics to help your gut health! You process waste from your garden using fermentation to bolster the micro-organism population that you already have in your soil. Then, add that population back to your garden at key points in the growing season.
With a larger and more diverse microbiome, the bugs in your soil can more efficiently move through their life cycles to process your soil, converting waste product into usable material. The upside to this is that now you don’t have to add nearly as much externally sourced material (minerals, organic matter, etc) to keep up with your soil health! It becomes self-sufficient!

Once you take your flowers home, find a clean (enough to drink out of!) vessel to display them in!
Give your new flowers a trim. While they have been in transit, the old cut will have become calloused, making it harder to take in water. Giving them a fresh trim lets them suck up as much water as possible!
Once your flowers are displayed in your vessel, remember to refresh the water and re-trim your flower stems every day. Not only will they drink more water than you expect, but they also like clean water. If you wouldn’t feel good about drinking the water your flowers are sitting in, then you should wash your vase and refresh the water.
Following these steps, we expect your fresh bouquet to last 7 to 9 days looking just as nice as when you brought them home!

Subscription pick up is available at the farm on Sundays, or at one of our three farmers’ markets during the week. When you place your order, select where you’d like to pick up your order. If you’re in Franklin County, you can have your subscription bouquets delivered each week for one flat price.
When you place a subscription order, you’ll shortly receive an email with your confirmation and instructions for pick up and delivery. The general timeline for pick up will be available in this email.
Exact subscription dates are dependent on the weather and the plants, so that information is not available until two weeks before pick ups begin. As soon as a start date is decided on, then I’ll send that information along to the email address I have on file with your subscription.
